I’ve had my MC202 for a long while – along with the Sh101 its one of the first synths I bought back in the late 1990’s.
I’ve always enjoyed sequencing it but using it live meant writing patterns on the fly or using tape load to load new patterns.
For a while now I’ve been using Phaedra on the ipad to live sequence soft synths with my analogue gear.
So combining the excellent step sequencing abilities of Phaedra with the MC202 seems liked a great idea.
Phaedra spits out midi notes, velocity and midi cc – this all goes into Ableton and using Expert Sleepers Silent Way this is converted to cv/gate data and sent to the MC202. The good thing about Phaedra is you can draw in velocity and cc data . For the soft synths I’ve used a a bunch of velocity to pitch or velocity for filter so I can draw in note or sound changes. Using the Silent Way Voice Controller matrix I have set the velocity to change the pitch so I can draw in pitch data in Phaedra. This turns out to be a great way to sequence the MC202 and gives me a lot of control over the mc202 patterns in realtime.
Here is a video of it all in action. Enjoy.
