The Roland D-110 is another one of those patch warrior type synths.
Ideally suited to computer based patch editing this synth is capable of some great sounds , but patch editors for this are few and far between these days.
This is my collection of patches for the Roland D-110 for download.
You can grab them all and patch your D-110 and enjoy some fresh sounds.
do you check these comments? would love to talk about the d110 a bit. anything I need to know about installing these? know of any decent PC GUI editors? Thanks!
I do check the comments. 🙂
I used to use MOTU UNISYN to load patches but now I use Sysex Editor. I’m afraid I dont know what the PC equivalent of these programs are.
There maybe some old GUI editors for the D110 – but to my knowledge they would be Atari applications.
I tried to run an Atari emulator to talk to the D110 but I had no luck getting it to work.
A good editor for the D110 is Sound Quests Midi Quest. I use it for editing all my synths. My setup consists of a Roland HP2700 piano, Casio CZ 101 and VZ1, Yamaha YS200 and TG55, Ensoniq ESQ1, Kawai K1 and the D110. Occasionally I throw my old TX7 in. Midi Quest supports all the above synths quite happily.
Not a particuarly cheap editor, but it supports just about any synth out there, including my (unfortunately non functional) SEIL EX80
I’ve not had much luck with Sound quest on the Mac.
I’ll give it another try, though , thanks for the recommendation.
@Josh : as long as they are .sysx, you can use midi-ox
http://www.midiox.com/
a bit of a classic! suited to any electronic genre if you’re prepared to
put the time in. there are two free editors for win32, and…oh d*mn,
link not working: ginosoft, and wmv, look here for more info:
http://www.synthzone.com/roland.htm
actually can sound better as pure dirty synth than 1080 a lot of the
time (ow, gonna get kickd for that!!)
yeah I’m on a few yahoo groups for the synth – not found an osX editor yet though.
Wish my sysex skills were better.
They look like interesting machines. I”m trying to get a bit more of an understanding of what is capable with them. Listening to a Legowelt interview was my introduction to the d110 (he spoke of it being a cheaper alternative to the other more popular digital synths of the 90s). Seems to be currently one of the overlooked digital synths.
Yes its hard to get your head around and the patch editing tools available now leave a lot to be desired.
Some of the old tools are meant to be good. Need an old machine laying around just to edit patches.
Hey.
Thanks for the free patches.
Any idea how to get the D-110 to respond to Live SYSEX control data?
I downloaded a preset for my BCR 2000 controller from http://lesitedeburnie.free.fr/bcrpresets-en.html that is intended for the D-110, but the D-110 isn’t responding to the controls?!
no idea – I use my BCR for zaquencer only these days.
It should respond to commands because there is a Roland box that can alter sounds live – only a few parameters though.
Check out this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRFH2M38_mo demo of PG-10 controller in action.
fresh off the press, here’s D-110 Tone Edit for Novation Remote 😉
(test draft beta1, needs a few corrections, i’m on it)
https://app.box.com/s/cr3qgoy05795dip4poc8eaa4uganc3m9
the zip contains 11 templates which all link up, and have to be
loaded into memory slots 1-11 on the Remote (ZeroSL mk1 here)
-there are a coupla issues here and there, value defaults or display
messed up by simple errors.
-stay away from the mute buttons for now, they will mainly just
switch all partials off, not working as intended yet.
other than that, maybe i’d change the layout a bit having used
it, and patch edit and rhythm setup are on the way.
only had a quick go with it so far but quite promising 🙂
Hi – I just recently got a D-110 and found this page during research. It’s very informative – Thanks for posting it!
Are the patches still available? I can access the page with the sysex links but there’s no download link nor any link I can right-click and “download link as…” I’ve download DropBox links loads of times before and I know that sometimes you have to search to get the download link, but I couldnt find it anywhere.
I’ll dig them up and stick them on dropbox
the links seems to work for me.
Maybe try save link as?
Anyone still interested on ? Got my d110 and ready to tock? Is there any appreciation group? did not find one ,suggestions?
sorry I sold my D110. Maybe try Yahoo group archive?
why did you sell it!!!! 🙂 just according to your experience is it possible to make a supersaw/square using the D110?
I had no access to a decent editor and figuring out SYSEX is a bit beyond me.
Its in more useful hands now.
I have a D-20 which is the same thing as the D-10/D-110 and patches are interchangeable between them. For over a decade, the thing was almost a paperweight to me because of the indecipherable user interface. That is, until I found Steinberg Synthworks for the Atari ST.
Because they’re basically the same synth engine, it works with the D-10, D-110, and D-20, and the interface is so simple I actually like it more than some modern synth editors that I’ve used. The best part is that you can load it using the ST emulator Stella on a modern PC and use it to edit patches via a MIDI connection. It is by far the best method I’ve found to edit my D-20 and WAY better than MidiQuest which I’ve never had great luck with.
These synths are capable of some very interesting sounds when the programming is unlocked through the ease of a nice, visual patch editor. I find it a little ironic that 30-year old software running on an emulator works infinitely better than much newer software that is still being sold for good money. And it’s easy enough to find with a simple Google search.
I misspoke, the name of the Atari ST emulator is Steem. Stella is the name of a 2600 emulator and I have a habit of confusing the two.
ah ok – i never had much luck with atari emulators on osx, especially trying to get midi out.
I even tried os9 /classic approach but still didnt talk with midi
Steem on PC sends midi. managed to run Cubase 2 on it. was a bit cranky but works.
D-20 is not exactly the same as D-10/110: there’s one less stage in the envelope. also has Performance mode, which is Upper/Lower combination.
Not quite true. The extra stage in the envelope is actually implemented as well in the D-20 and in the D-10, it’s just not editable or used in D-10/D-20 presets. However, D-110 tones loaded into the D-10/D-20 do retain and play the extra envelope segment. (I tested.)
you need something like Loopbe1, whatever the equivalent is for osx.
Guys about the real time control , I’m using SoundDiver 3.0 working flawlessy under win 7 as well as mac os 9.2
Thanks in advance I do have a hardware D-110 but I also have a JV-1080 VST and I thought I ´d try to import D-110 into JV-1080 User Banks – I don´t know if it´s possible.
Regards
Synthos
good luck and let me know if the VST works
